Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Today they’d like us to talk about the top ten books I feel like everyone has read but me. So really, how much time do you have? I could go on about this for days (but I won’t).
1. Any of the sequels to Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater- I wasn’t a fan of Shiver. I don’t know why. Maybe something’s wrong with me. I just related Sam to my family dog (only in wolf form). Also I hated his really terrible poetry. But people go on and on about Linger and now, dear lord, Forever. It makes me think I should give it another go. Maybe I was in a bad mood when I read the first one.
2. The Chaos Walking Trilogy by Patrick Ness- I was actually dumb enough to check Monsters of Men out from the library a while back—you know, not realizing that there were two whole books before it. Clearly I couldn’t read it until I read the others and I just haven’t gotten around to it. I hear they’re painfully good. I’m not sure I’m ready for that.
3. White Cat by Holly Black- Actually, I’ve never read anything by Holly Black. I’m well aware that this needs to be rectified. Working on it, but holy wow, there are only so many hours in the day!
4. Feed by MT Anderson- I have no idea what this is about, but I feel like I missed the boat here.
5. Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins- I know this isn’t even out yet, but seriously, am I the only one in the world who hasn’t read it? Dying here. Totally dying.
6. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky- I know (hides head in shame).
7. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson- You would think that with all the uproar this book caused that I might have picked it up. But no. You’d be wrong.
8. Looking for Alaska by John Green- You guys, this is pretty bad because I loved Paper Towns. I love Nerdfighters. And yet, I’ve not read this one that everyone talks about.
9. Paranormalcy by Kiersten White- Alright so, we know I’m not crazy for paranormal books, but I do enjoy my fair share. The question here is, why haven’t I read this one? It’s gotten such good reviews and it has a mermaid (along with the normal paranormal creatures). I need to read it.
10. The Airhead series by Meg Cabot- It’s no secret that I love Miss Meg. She’s my favorite. And I loved all of her books—at least, the ones I’ve read because I’ve never actually read this series. The shame! They should take away my Meg Cabot fan club membership. Ok, I’m not really a member of a Meg Cabot fan club (but if you started one I would totally join).

You are not alone. Maybe when it comes to “Speak” and “Looking for Alaska”, but as for the other eight, we’re at least two. (I haven’t even read “Anna and the French Kiss” or “Shiver”.)
I feel much better now. 🙂 Sometimes it seems like everyone has read so many books I haven’t gotten my hands on yet.
I actually hated “Shiver” when I read it. I didn’t understand what all the fuss was about. But I read the sequel (because I can’t stop reading a series once I’ve started, no matter how bad it is. That’s why I’ve read the first seven books in the “House of Night” series), and to my surprise I actually kind of liked it. I won’t buy the books or talk about them like a crazy person, like I do with Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. And If I Stay and… Where were I? Right, I won’t buy the books, but I think I will read the last book when it’s translated to Swedish (thats probably when my library will buy it) just to find out how it all ends. I definitely think you should get the second book a try.
So maybe I should try to continue the Shiver books then. I know how you feel about The House of Night books. I haven’t read those but I did the same with The Immortals series. They’re so bad, but somehow I couldn’t stop reading them. They were literally so bad they were good. And cheers Percy Jackson, Harry Potter and If I Stay (sigh). I LOVE all of those! They never get old.
I also didn’t get into Shiver. Sam’s poetry bugged, plus I live in Minnesota and nobody thinks wolves in your backyard is normal. The characters in Linger were intriguing, but not enough to bring me to Forever. (There will only be one Forever, in my mind, and it was written by Judy Blume and there’s no comparison for me, ever.)
I cannot stop talking about Patrick Ness, though. I recommend him to everyone. Those books continue to knock my socks off. Better than the Hunger Games.
My favorite John Green is actually An Abundance of Katherines. LFA is okay but I love Hassan in Katherine.
There you go. An Abundance of Katherines? Never read it. And Forever (the real one)? Never read it. Didn’t even know it existed until I was a grown up! Let’s add those to my list too! I do, however, promise to read the Patrick Ness books ASAP!

ps– i LOVED shiver….and have YET to finish Linger. i keep starting it at can’t get past chapter 3.
Great idea! You know what’s funny? I’ve been seeing The Perks of Being a Wallflower on alot of lists today. Clearly we’re in good company!
I think I’m going to have to read Linger. There’s a reason people love those books. I just don’t get it.

I actually read the Perks of being a Wallflower last summer. I had never heard of it before, though.

I didn’t NOT like it. I think it was… ok. Better than Linger (to go back to the previous discussion), but not one of my favourites. As I said, I read it a little more than a year ago, so I don’t remember all that much from it. Maybe it’ll be amazing if I read it again.
But you should definitely read Speak. Or even just see the movie (just pretend Kristen Stewart isn’t in it). The story is amazing. And so sad, in a good way.
I didn’t even know K STew made that movie! I’d have to ignore her and her hair flipping and lip biting, but I’d watch it. I’ll definitely read the book first. I truly have no idea why I’ve never read it.
And maybe I’ll skip The Perks of Being a Wallflower, for now at least. There are too many others I KNOW are good. Thanks for the advice! 🙂
i love your list! The Knife of Never Letting Go is (or course) still on my list. Good Lord i NEED to read that series already! i have Speak, Paranormalcy, White Cat and Looking For Alaska currently sitting on my shelves. i have yet to read any of them. i know, i’m such a bad booknerd. 😦

Ditto for me. I mean, I still haven’t finished Little Women yet! That makes me a bad booknerd AND just bad as a girl. Esp. since my nine year old is obsessed with that one.

You think you’re not going to be ready to have your heart wounded any time soon? If that’s the case, you’ll never be ready for this book. Ever. And when I say that, I mean you have to get ready to have your heart wounded because I feel like I’ve never rooted so hard for a character in my entire life as much as I’ve rooted for Todd Hewitt. I’m taking The Ask and the Answer with me when I go out of town this week, and as much as I’m scared that this book is going to traumatize me, I AM SO READY.
You are making me both scared and excited. I love when I get so completely wrapped up in a book that it almost hurts. But then I’m so sad when it all ends. It’s the TEABS!!! 🙂 I’ll mentally prepare and then keep a happy book on my nightstand to help me through the aftereffects.

White Cat and Red Glove are fantastic and sooo original. I actually love the Wolves of Mercy Falls series, but I haven’t read Forever yet, even though I own it.
I also feel like I’m the only one who hasn’t read Chaos Walking! I tried it in a dystopia phase but the narration wasn’t for me. Maybe I’ll give it another go.
And I don’t want to brag, but I got Lola yesterday from Tahareh Mafi! Squeal! Sorry, though. I would send you everything on the list, but shipping requires money. Which I am not in abundance of.
Don’t be sorry! At least my wait for Lola is almost over! I like the sound of White Cat, so that’s definitely on my list. There are so many I don’t know where to start!
