Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the awesome ladies at The Broke and The Bookish. Today our topic is Books That Have Been on My Shelf the Longest. In truth, I don’t have that many. I’ve been a very good girl and read everything I’ve bought lately—but I have a couple.
1. The Shack by William P. Young- I really doubt I will ever read this book. It sounds disturbing and manipulative in its premise. I should probably just give it away and move on. And come on, we all know there’s no good swoon there. It’s just going to upset me in the long run.
2. Shanghai Girls by Lisa See- I have no idea why I haven’t read this. My copy is even signed by the author. AND I’ve loved her other books. But you know how it is. You have books that you get from the library, or that friends loan you and then somehow the books you actually own get pushed aside. That’s what happened here.
3. Little Women by Louisa May Alcott- I know. I’ve already confessed here that there are some seriously amazing books that I’ve never read. This would be one of them. I’ve actually started it, but again, since we own it (it belongs to my daughter), I push it aside in favor of books that have a due date or some sort of deadline.
4. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith- I borrowed it from a friend and it just sat there. It’s still just sitting there. I don’t know why. I hear it’s wonderful and sad. Must read asap.

YA Crush 
Little Women made my list too. I watched the movie and then I really thought I should read the book so I bought it, but I’ve never even opened it to read it.
It’s my ten year-old daughter’s favorite book and I feel bad that she’s read it a couple of times and I haven’t!

T – you still haven’t read A Tree Grown in Brooklyn? ha ha It really is a great book, but I totally get it. I hang on to E’s Angel’s and Demons and The Lost Code forever – just never got around to reading them. Don’t bother with The Shack, I didn’t really get it – keep it on the shelf. 🙂
I’m SO bad Michele. Do you want it back? I really need to read it. I’m skipping The Shack b/c you and Tam both said “Meh”. Why waste my time? 🙂
For years I thought I’d read Little Women as a child, but recently I discovered that I’ve only actually read half of it! It’s definitely one I need to read in its entirety.
Oh, you have a fascinating cross-section there. I’m kind of ambivalent about reading The Shack, too. At this point, I think ‘meh’ has won out as where I stand on wanting to read it 😀
Yeah and friends I really trust, like Michele, who know me so well we’re like “don’t bother.” But why am I keeping it on the shelf then? I need to let it go and move on!
I find it really hard to abandon a book… especially if I own it. I have books I’ve bought just sitting on the shelf, and I just can’t moticate myself to read them. being able to say ‘No’ is a Very Good Thing 😀
One of my unread books is a Margaret Atwood. I actually have another book signed by her as well, and it’s the only one of hers I’ve read. Interesting how having the author’s signature still isn’t sufficient motivation.

Such very good book on your TBR pile! Someday we will live without sleep. Then we will read.
Seriously! It feels like those hours of sleep are wasted when they could be spent catching up on reading. 🙂
I’ve never read Little Women, either. People talk about the characters and the story so much, I kind of feel like I have read it :0)
My Top Ten
That’s how I feel. I know the story. I’ve seen two of the movies a billion times and yet everyone (my kid included) assures me that I have to read it because I’ll totally love it.
