Oooooh It’s Friday the 13th! (This really means nothing to me, but I can’t totally ignore it. Some people take that business seriously.) After a few weeks away from Fangirl Friday, it’s back!!! I love participating in this feature, but my husband and kids were home for three weeks of Christmas Vacation and that left little time for blogging. Now it’s on like Donkey Kong.
So where to begin? Fan Girl Friday is hosted by my girl Evil Eva at Nancy Drew is My Homegirl. Here’s what I’m obsessing over this week:
1. Daughter of Smoke and Bone– Sandi at Teen Lit Rocks is going to be so happy to hear this. I’ve finished the book (which was fantastic and so beautifully written, omg) and I’m still thinking about it. I’m going to have to re-read it soon.
2. My husband read The Hunger Games. And liked it- This excited me because any time someone reads a book I recommend to them and likes it, I feel validated (it’s sad really). Also, he gives me serious crap for reading YA (though he’s a mega bookworm too) so to have him read it and like it makes me smile sweetly and say “In yo face Hubs! (but I still love you)”.
3. The Five Year Engagement- Forever Young Adult did this great post on Tuesday and it was then that I saw the trailer for The Five Year Engagement. OMG, I want to see this movie. I love movies with people who are dorky and funny and who either get hurt and/or fall down alot. This movie was made for me.
4. There are awesome books sitting on my bookshelf right now:
5. Universal Studios Baby- I’m taking a trip to Universal Studios, Hollywood this weekend. I haven’t been there in years!
OMG, I’ve never heard of that movie, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Emily Blunt & the Marshmallow!!! I am loving Daughter of Smoke and Bones, too, BTW. Not very far into it because yesterday was hell on a stick, but I intend to make up for it today! have a great weekend!!!! (sorry, a little too much coffee this morning)
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it so far. I really loved it! Have a great weekend!!!! 🙂
I would be happy to babysit Goddess Interrupted while you go on vacation. I’m very responsible as well as CPR and First Aid certified (well, I was at one time). 🙂
Have fun at Universal Studios and with all your fun, fangirl Friday finds!
P.S. Props to the hubs for reading the Hunger Games. I would marry a man in a heartbeat if he read YA (Like Ryan Gosling does!).
ha ha!
Candice, do you do Net Galley? Goddess Interrupted is on there! So technically, all of the other books I listed are actually sitting on my shelf and that one is an e-galley sitting on my computer. My pal Maggie @ Gone Pecan told me it was on NG though. I don’t love e-galleys but when she told me it was available I was in! You should check it out.
I do do Net Galley! I saw that Goddess Interrupted was on there yesterday and my mouse couldn’t click the “Request” button fast enough! Fingers crossed the publisher will let me read it!
Yea! Good luck!
Also, yes to men reading. And to Ryan Gosling reading? Yes, yes. Have you ever gone on the site Hot Guys Reading Books? It’s hilarious. The best pics are always the ones that someone does in a sneaky way. http://hotguysreadingbooks.tumblr.com/
LOVED Daughter of Smoke and Bone, it was my favorite book of 2011. Now that you mention it though I might be due for a reread already. I’m so glad that you enjoyed it as well. :]
As for wanting the validation when you recommend books, I’m the same way. Nothing makes me happier than knowing someone really did like the book I picked for them.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who actually feels happier when someone likes a book I recommend. It just makes me smile. 🙂 And, seriously, is it time for the sequel to Daughter of Smoke and Bone yet? It’s been four days since I finished it and I need more.
I completely understand the need to feel validated you gave someone a good book to read. Take my friend and my sister. Both recently started The Hunger Games. My friend is in love!! On book three!! Yay someone else to talk to about it! Then my sister. I called her and got this “I’ve got one chapter left of the first book. Eh, it’s ok” OMG WHAT?!?!! ~Maggie
I have to admit that I worried about what it would mean if you DIDN’T love Daughter of Smoke and Bone. lol! Oh my, it totally blew my mind, and I’m so, so thrilled you loved it. Consider it karmic payback for my adoration of Melina Marchetta thanks to you! Enjoy your time at Universal. Smooches!
🙂 Thanks!
i got Daughter of Smoke and Bone for Christmas and i can’t wait to read it! i’ve heard so many great things about it. i also recently got Legend and Shatter Me too and i’m really excited about reading them.
But first i HAVE to read Lola and the Boy Next Door. i’ve waited long enough.
There are just too many good books out there and not enough time to read them all.
Definitely do Lola. You will totally love it. But you have to let me know how you like Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I think you’ll love it!
Bahahaha “I love movies with people who are dorky and funny and who either get hurt and/or fall down alot.” ME TOO.
And IN YO FACE, TEE’S HUBS. I have no shame. My hubs recently got a library card (which I documented with pictures and completely freaked out about) said he thinks he’s going to try The Hunger Games audiobook. I nearly peed myself when he told me that. (He is very much NOT a bookworm.)
I LOVE that you documented your husband getting his library card. That is a huge deal (for dorks like us but whatever). The thing is, you know that when he reads The Hungers Games he’ll love it and he’ll finally get why we all spazz. That’s why I was extra excited about my husband, who totally makes fun of my YA love (and the covers which you seriously know all about). During the book he looked at me all serious and shocked was like,”You know, I need to give you credit. This is a reeeeaaally good book.” So I was partly happy and partly going, “Um, duh.” 🙂
